Making Hokey Pokey

 Aim:

How To Make Hokey Pokey

Method:

Equipment:

  • Saucepan
  • Baking Paper
  • Cookie Cutter
  • 5Tblsp Sugar
  • 2Tblsp Golden Syrup
  • 1Tsp Baking Soda
Instructions:
  1. Wash your hand
  2. Get you equipment
  3. Set up the bunsen burner
  4. Put a pot ontop of the tripod above of the bunsen burner
  5. Light the bunsen burner hole closed put fire first then gas
  6. Add 5Tblsp of Sugarto the pot
  7. Add 2Tblsp of Golden Syrup to the pot
  8. Melt & Mix
  9. Turn off the gas and add one Tblsp of Baking Soda & Mix
  10. Scrape the Hokey Pokey onto the Baking Paper
  11. Let it cool for atleast 30Sec/1min
  12. Press a Cookie Cutter into the Hokey Pokey

Instructions:

  1. Wash you hands
  2. Get equipment
  3. Put 1 tablespoon of ginger in the cup
  4. Half fill the cup with warm water
  5. Add 1 teaspoon of yeast
  6. Mix together
  7. Leave it to ferment for one week
  8. After 1 week taste it
Results:

It tasted like really strong Beer

Making sherbet

Aim: 

I want to find out how to make sherbert

Research:


Method:

Equipment:
  • Raro
  • Cirtric Acid
  • Baking Soda
  • Popsicle Stick
  • Plate/Paper
Instructions:
  1. Wash your hands
  2. Get equipment
  3. Put your Paper/Plate on your table
  4. Get the three powders
  5. Put the ingredients on different corners
  6. Taste the sherbet 
  7. If to much baking soda put Citric Acid
  8. If to tuch citric acid add more Baking Soda
  9. If it doesn't taste good add more Raro
Results:

It was pretty fun but it took a while to get it right

What is the chemical reaction in the sherbert?

Eating Hot Chilli

 Aim: 

I want to find out how to get rid of the spice of burning chilli on my tongue.

Research: funny video at the bottom

Method:

Equipment: 

Popsickle stick, Chilli

Timer, Coke, Water, Milk, Cup


Instructions: 
  1. Get your equipment
  2. Scoop some chilli onto your stick
  3. Start the timer and eat the chilli
  4. Stop the timer after four minutes
  5. Rate how hot your mouth is
  6. Do experiment again but drink water after two minutes
  7. Do experiment again but drink water after two minutes
  8. Drink milk


    

Results: 


Normal Hot sauce I rate it 10/10

With Water I rate it a 8 out of 10

With coke about a 2 out of 10

With milk about a 1 out of 10


Discussion:

Why does the chilli burn your mouth? Because of Capsaicin.

Why did the milk reduce the burn? milk contains Fat which dissolves the Capsaecin.

Bacteria Around Our School

 Aim:

I want to find out what type of bacteria are around our school.

Reasearch:

Funny bacteria

Science bacteria

Experiment bacteria

Equipment:

  • Cotton Buds
  • Agar Plates
  • Marker Pen
  • Tape
Instructions:
  1. Get your equipment.
  2. Wash your hands.
  3. Use a marker pen to write your name and location on the lid.
  4. Wet the cotton bud and swab the surface.
  5. Gently swab the agar plate.
  6. Tape around the edges of the agar plate.
  7. Put the agar plate in an incubator over-night.
  8. Observe the plate the next day
Is it fuzzy- yes = Fungi
If not = Looks smooth = Bacteria

White=Ecoli- Poop Bacteria.
Yellow=Streptococci- throught infection and Orange means a really bad one.
Pink=salmonella- Food poisoning.
Red=Meningitis- Brain poisoning

My one has lots of throat infection Lots of poo and a yeast infection Me James Benaiah and Truby smelt the side and it stunk like s*** It made me gag

Measuring Mentos And Coke

 Aim: I want to find out how many bubbles are made when mentos is dropped in coke.

Method:

Equipment

  • Coke, Coke Zero, Sprite
  • Mentos
  • Measuring cylinder (100ml and 10ml)
  • Safety Glasses
  • Detergent (10ml)
Instructions:
  1. Put safety glasses on
  2. Get coke and mentos
  3. Pour 20 mls of coke into 100 mil measuring cylinder
  4. add 5 mls of detergent to you coke
Results:

Conclusion:

I found out that fruit mentos doesn't work with the coke and mentos experiment, and that when you put detergent in with it, it makes the bubbles stay longer and makes the bubbles go higher go higher.

Turning Milk Into Plastic

Aim:

I want to find out how to turn milk into plastic.

Method: 

Equipment:
  • 1 Cup Milk
  • 4Tsp white vinegar
  • Microwave
  • Bowl/Mug
  • Spoon For Mixing
  • Food Colouring
  • Paper Towels
Instruction:
  1. Pour one cup of milk into a pot or microwaveable container
  2. Heat the milk in the microwave or the stove until it is steaming
  3. Add four teaspoons of white vinegar into your hot milk
  4. Stir the mixture
  5. Knead all the curds into a ball
  6. Colour shape or decorate the dough as you like
  7. Put it on the paper and dry overnight

Skittle Colours

Aim:

I want to find out what happens when you put Skittles in water.

Method: 

Equipment:
  • Petri Dish
  • Skittles
  • Warm Water
  • Beaker
Instructions:
  1. Get you equipment
  2. arrange your skittles around the edge of your Petri Dish
  3. Gentle pour warm water in the middle of the Dish
  4. Observe what happens

Disscussion:
Why did the colour leave the water?
The sugar coating dissolved in the water.

Why did the colours not mix?
the water is more dense than the different colours making the colours not mix.

Edible Slime

Aim: 

I want to find out how to make edible slime 

Method:


Equipment:

  • Marshmallow
  • Popsicle Stick/Spatula
  • Cup/Bowl
  • Microwave
  • Icing Sugar
  • Vegetable Oil
Instructions:
  1. Put your marshmallows in your Bowl/Cup
  2. Melt in microwave for 10 secs
  3. Mix with you icing sugar
  4. (Optional) add a couple of drops of vegetable oil

Gummy Bear Osmosis

 Aim: I want tot find out what happens to gummy bears when you leave it in liquids.

Method:

  • Gummy Bears
  • Liquids - Salt Water - Sugar Water - Water.
  • Electronic Scale
  • 4x Petri Dishes
  • Marker Pen
Instructions:
  1. Get Equipment
  2. Get your petri dish and write down you name and the water type
  3. weigh the bear and write it on the petri dish 
  4. come back a white later and check results
